Biennial Conference of ABBS 2014
Date- October 9-11, 2014
Place - Beijing, China
The Biennial Conference of the Association of BRICS
Business Schools (ABBS) and the 6th BRICS Students’
Meet were held from October 9-11, 2014 in Beijing,
China. The event, that invites students and faculty
of B- schools from BRICS countries to join hands
in furthering business education, was organized
jointly by the University of International Business
and Economics, Beijing and ABBS. Prof. J. Philip,
President- XIME and Prof. C. P. Ravindranathan,
Honorary Professor- XIME, along with seven students,
represented XIME at the conference.
Prof. J. Philip delivered an address at the inaugural
session, as the Founder President of ABBS, on “Intra-
BRICS Cooperation in Management Education.” Prof.
C. P. Ravindranthan presented a paper titled “India-
China FDI Ties”. Ms. Jennie George, student of XIME
elucidated her vision for the future of MBA before the
Ms. Moumita Mahapatra, Ms. Rishitha Y., Ms. Jennie
George and Mr. Goutham Krishnan P.S. of XIMEBangalore,
and Ms. Sonali Singh, Mr. Samuel Deepak
and Mr. Anush Sadu of XIME- Kochi are the students
who participated in the Meet. Other institutions that
participated include the Guangdong University of
Foreign Studies, Shanghai University of international
Business and Economics, Shantou University and Far
Easter Federal University (Russia). The Students’ Meet
provided many opportunities such as an industrial
visit to the Hyundai Factory in Beijing, a cultural
programme and a Strategic Management competition-
“Sand Board”. Ms. Moumita and Mr. Goutham, as a
team, secured the first place, while Mr. Samuel and
Mr. Anush were part of the teams that secured the
second and third places, respectively, in the “Sand
Maria Philip Debate Competition

Maria Philip, daughter of Mrs. Leelamma Philip and
Prof. J. Philip, President - XIME is the spirit behind the
founding of XIME. Maria, who was an excellent orator
and debater, passed away on September 30, 1986.
The Maria Philip Memorial Inter B- School Debate
Competition was held on October 6, 2014 at XIMEBangalore,
as a fitting tribute to Maria. The topic for
the debate was “The move to abolish the Planning
Commission is detrimental to the management of
the country’s economy”. The business schools that
participated include IIM-Bangalore, Christ College,
St. Joseph’s College of Management & TAPMI. The
Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr. Partha De Sarkar,
CEO- Hinduja Global Solutions and the Panel of Judges
was chaired by Mr. P.S. Ponnappa, Vice President, TVS
Motor Co. Ltd. The Panel also included the Dr. M. C.
Nirmala, Practice Head – Research and Consulting,
Great Place to Work Institute, India, Mr. Vinod Kumar,
Senior Manager - HR, Ellucian, India, Mr. Siddarth
Naga S., Chief People Officer, Cloudnine, Bangalore,
Ms. Padma Srinivas, HR Consultant and President of the XIME Alumni Association. The team from T. A.
Pai Management Institute, Manipal comprising Ms.
Devika Ganesh Shenoy and Ms. Vaishnavi Chella
won the first prize and received the rolling trophy
along with a cash award of Rs.15,000/-. The team
from St. Joseph’s College of Business Administration,
Bangalore that comprised Mr. Roger Joseph Lurshay
and Ms. Ashwini Agarwal won the second prize and
received a cash award of Rs.10,000.
Workshop on Creativity & Innovation
Date- September 12-13, 2014
Place - XIME campus
XIME, Bangalore organized its first workshop on
Creativity & Innovation during September 12-
13, 2014. The workshop was led by Dr. Jeyakar
Vedamanickam, Director- XIME and coordinated by
Mr. K. Bennie Joel, Asst. Professor- XIME. The primary
goal of the workshop was to encourage “out-of-thebox-
thinking” in the 23 participants from various
corporate and educational institutions, who would
further implement it in their own organizations.
The first session by Dr. Jeyakar Vedamanickam was
an overview of Creativity & Innovation through
simulation games. Dr. Mathew J. Manimala, Professor,
IIM-B delivered a session on “Creative thinking:
Nature, Facilitators and Blocks”. On the second day,
Dr. Jeyakar Vedamanickam taught how to sell creative
ideas. The participants expressed high appreciation
for the workshop.
Delegates from the University of Akron
Date- July 21-25, 2014
Place - XIME campus
A team of delegates from the University of Akron,
Ohio, USA led by Professor Suzanne Gradisher was
at XIME from July 21 to 25, 2014. The delegates
visited XIME as part of their “study abroad” program.
A series of guest lectures by the faculty and other
eminent personalities and industrial visits to various
companies were organized to familiarize them with
business organizations in India and their functioning.
A cultural show was put up by the students of XIME
that gave them a glimpse of the rich Indian culture.
XIME engages with UNGC
The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is
a platform for business and non-business entities
to proactively network and engage in areas of
human rights, labour, environment, anti-corruption
and contributing to UN goals in order to achieve
the common objectives of building a sustainable
and inclusive global economy. XIME is an active
participant of the UNGC for almost 5 years now.
XIME is committed to advance the ten principles of
UN Global Compact within its sphere of influence.
ICONnect, the innovative Fund Raiser event held in
association with the Joy of Giving Week (DaanUtsav)
is back for a second innings. Hosted by the students of
Xavier Institute of Management & Entrepreneurship,
Bangalore, ICONnect 2014 enabled participants to
bid for their favourite ICONs in an online auction that
happened during October 2- 11 on eBay. The winning
bidders will get the unique opportunity to ‘shadow’
the respective ICON for an entire day.All funds raised
through this event are channelled directly to the
NGOs championed by the ICONS.
In 2013, the event saw over 200 unique bidders, and Rs.
3 Lakh raised in auctions. This year, XIME has roped
in personalities from diverse fields such as Performing
Arts, Sports, Literature, Cinema, and Social Service,
in addition to Business Leaders.The impressive list
of ICONs this year includes the renowned Indian
Classical Dancer, Social Activist and Padma Bhushan
recipient- Dr. Mallika Sarabhai, Ace Billiards player
Padma Shri Pankaj Advani, Badminton Star Ms.
Ashwini Ponnappa, Sports Commentator-cumentrepreneur
Mr. Charu Sharma, Singer, Lyricist and
Composer Mr. Raghu Dixit, renowned Comedian and
Radio Jockey Mr. Danish Sait, Chairman of Manipal
Global Education Mr. Mohandas Pai, Mindtree CEO
Mr. Krishnakumar Natarajan, CMD of Kirloskar
Systems Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, GM of JW Marriott
Bengaluru – Parul Thakur, to name a few.
Major NGOs like SMILE Foundation, CRY,
AkshayaPatra, and Goonj, among others will be the
beneficiaries of the bidding. The auctions were live for
10 days from October 2, 2014.
XIME features among the Top 15
XIME was ranked the 15th best Private B-school in India and the 2nd best in Karnataka in a survey
conducted by Careers 360. It is indeed a proud moment for XIME as the ranking has come soon after the
prestigious ACBSP accreditation. XIME has always endeavoured to achieve excellence in management
education and strives to better its performance.
The latest survey by Indian Management has put XIME in the ‘A1’ category placing it among the top
B- Schools in South India.
